#0118 Jackson Gate

#0118 Jackson Gate

Site information:

On Jackson Gate Road, about .1 miles S of China Graveyard Rd, Jackson

The location description above is from the OHP, and it is very vague, in my opinion.  When I visited, I thought the channel in the photos was the Jackson Gate.  I've since learned it is a ways up this creek, about 500 feet south.

The "gate" is a large gap between two rocks, directly behind the restaurant and buildings.  There is a fence and dirt road heading to the old mining area.

The photos with green grass are farther along the creek which goes through the gate, but not the gate itself.

OHP description:

Jackson Gate, on the north fork of Jackson Creek, takes its name from a fissure in a reef of rock that crosses the creek. In 1850 about 500 miners worked here and the first mining ditch in the county was dug here - its water sold for $1 per inch.
