This structure was erected
in 1858 by Captain Granville P. Swift, a member of the
Bear Flag Party, using stone quarried here by native Indian
labor. General Percifor F. Smith, U.S. military commander
in California, lived in the little house nearby in 1849.

Temelec Hall, built in 1858 by Captain Granville P. Swift, member of the Bear Flag Party, and its outbuildings, fountains, reservoir and retaining walls have been listed in the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior, April 19, 2006.
